Dock at the Slow Rezz Cafe Adds 7Seas Fishing

This past week, we added the 7Seas Fishing Game to the northeast corner of Kataniya Springs, just outside the Slow Rezz Cafe. In coming months, we'll participate in grid-wide gift hunts that use 7Seas servers to distribute freebies to treasure seekers. Note: You must use official (7S) 7Seas Fishing Gear to participate.

Meanwhile, you can "test the waters" as we add a few early catches to the list of prizes  you can win when fishing our shore. MincedMedia's Custom Prize Giver is currently operating in Global Mode (all catches have an equal chance of prizes from the custom prize list).

Our Custom Catch List (updated 6/13/09):
  • Minced Jewels - Bracelet Vintage Marine Life Beads -  (see below)
  • SRC Booty - Pirate Gold Coin Piece
  • SRC Box - Pirate Captain Wood with Brass and Key
  • SRC Box - Japanese Blue Swirl Cloisonne
  • SRC Lamp - Abstract Nautilus Shell

Like what you see? You can buy transferable custom catches on the dock.

While fishing here, you may win official 7Seas prizes available to anyone who fishes at any 7Seas fishing area. To keep up-to-date on our fishing contests, follow us on Twitter or join our Slow Rezz Cafe group. We'll add more original catches and improve your odds of winning as our dock popularity increases, so bring your friends for a leisurely afternoon of fishing by the shore.

Shep Korvin's Lucky Tribe Debuts in Second Life

The Slow Rezz Café Antiques & Curios Shop is one of a handful of select stores chosen as an Official Event Partner in Shep Korvin's Lucky Tribe grid-wide event, run by Lucky Designs - makers of the original Lucky Chair.

This is not just another gift hunt. According to official notecards, "Lucky Tribe has it's own currency - Tribe Kudos Points. There's a bunch of different ways you can earn Kudos points, and your gains and achievements are tracked in a special HUD. Every time you earn 100 Kudos points, you can drop in at Lucky Tribe HQ and claim a prize token."

If you need some incentive to participate in Lucky Tribes, here it is. The Slow Rezz Café is offering an English Bracket Clock in Mahogany for its special prize. Come by the shop to check it out, click on the sign to join the Lucky Tribes group and get a SLURL to pick up your prize HUD. While you're here, look around at our lovely decorative items for your home.

Athena Isle Noted by Woman-Focused SL Blog

Athena Isle and several of its builds have been lauded in a recent post about art in Second Life by one of the newer Second Life blogs, Zillow Dejavu's Second Chick, a blog "for and about the women of the Second Life® virtual world."

"My search for women in the arts in Second Life led me first to the Community for Creativity, Women’s Work, at Athena Isle," writes Se7en Wirsing in her post "Se7en Tours Galleries of SL and Goes Up in Flames."  Community for Creativity is run by Cybergrrl Oh, the visionary behind Athena Isle's community.  Wirsing goes on to mention several other builds on Athena Isle, saying she "barely scratched the surface at Athena."

Second Chick focuses on Second Life news and features related to women in these categories: arts, business and careers, profiles, relationships, and style.  An earlier post, "Literary Connections," referenced Story Mountain Center for Writers on Athena Isle.

Second Chick is a great addition to the SL blogosphere and should benefit the endeavors of women avatars across the Second Life grid.

Story Mountain Owner Goes Off the Shelf & On the Air

The exciting new radio talk show about the literary scene in Second Life, Off The Shelf, will air its second program this Sunday, March 29, featuring perhaps the most well-known SL literary figure/writer/poet, Persephone Phoenix, and Alas Zerbino, co-owner of Story Mountain Center for Writers on Athena Isle.

Off The Shelf is the first literary talk show in Second Life and is hosted by two folks from Bookstacks on Awen.  Kghia Gherardi and Simeon Beresford interview their guests live for this half-hour show at 1 p.m. SLT (PDT) Sundays on the Internet radio station, Radio Riel.  Bookstacks and the Second Life Literary Foundation are its sponsors.

Persephone Phoenix is a highly regarded poet and also the founder and operator of the Blue Angel Poets' Dive in Second Life, which sponsors, among other literary events, the longest-running open mic in Second Life every Sunday.

Alas Zerbino will be interviewed about the Second Life writing community and her work to bring together information about writer-related events, places, and programs from across the grid to a single location for easy reference on the Web and at Story Mountain, which she co-owns with Clarissa Tolsen.

Future shows "will focus on interviews with authors, poets, publishers, editors, librarians, literary venue hosts, and other bookish people, both within Second Life and outside," according to the Off The Shelf press release.

Details, links, and SLURLs for Sunday's show:

  • When:  1:00 p.m. Second Life time (Pacific Daylight Time), Sunday, March 29, 2009.
  • To attend the live show:  In SL, the live taping is at Awen, the home of Bookstacks (SLURL for teleporting).  While the program starts at 1 p.m., if you want to attend, you might go there earlier (the first show was well-attended).

Freebies and Giveaways on Athena Isle

The next few months are going to be busy, busy, busy in Kataniya Springs by the Shore. The Slow Rezz Café Antiques & Curios Shop is participating in grid-wide gift hunts. These hunts have become quite a phenom recently, and I'm lucky to be involved. In at least one case, a hunt organizer came out to the Slow Rezz to evaluate our offerings to see if we had the uniqueness and quality they wanted in their event.

If you want to try something new, then join the hordes of shopper/hunters who will drop by my little piece of the grid and dozens of other stores to pick up their free hidden treasures. Mark your calendars:
Please drop by Kataniya Springs by the Shore soon and especially, the Slow Rezz Café to check out all our lovely things in the Antiques & Curios Shop.

Take care!

Call for Artists - 50 meter gallery

The 50 meter gallery at Kataniya Springs by the Shore, Athena Isle, is now accepting applications for its Visiting Artist program. Program benefits include free exhibit space (25 prims per artist to showcase his or her artwork), free event space on the parcel for receptions and free PR assistance - event listings, blog posts and a Twitter feed. Only a handful of deserving artists will be chosen. The 50 meter gallery is located directly above the Slow Rezz Cafe...just fly up to the floating platform to look around. For consideration, TP over during office hours to meet with MincedMedia Clip to discuss your art, or drop her a notecard with textures, landmarks to your current shows and/or a link to your RL Web site.
